About us

Amy BrightyHow we started out…

Cheryl Brighty and her daughter Amy started making chocolates as a two-year project to fund Amy’s expedition to Peru. Over that time they established a reputation for fine quality chocolates and as the expedition approached their regular customers expressed concern that they would stop. Comments such as, “the best chocolate I have ever tasted” encouraged them to continue.

Originally known as ‘Amy’s Truffles’ after the first chocolates we made, the business was re-launched with the name ‘Artistry in Cocoa’.

Since then, other family members have become involved, notably Emily who at 14 held the accolade of the youngest person in England to have sucessfully completed a professional chocolate showpiece course (making metre high chocolate sculptures). In 2012 Artistry in Cocoa opened it’s first Shop in Sun Lane Newmarket. Within the first six months of opening we were awarded highly commended in the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards for best independent retailer.

Currently our range of chocolates is augmented by hot chocolates, sumptuous chocolate cakes, our own ice cream and the very popular ‘chocolate birthday party’. We run a variety of chocolate workshops for all ages and abilities. Wedding and corporate enquiries are welcome.

Our Philosophy

Cheryl BrightyFresh chocolates – chocolates made from fresh ingredients with no added preservatives. This means that many of our chocolates have a short shelf life of between two and six weeks. When you place an order we will make it up for you so can enjoy our chocolates at their best. This is the reason that for special orders we will ask you to tell us when you require the chocolates for. We think you will appreciate the difference in taste and have no problem eating them sooner rather than later!

Real chocolate – all our chocolates contain cocoa butter and no added vegetable fats or butter oils. Our Belgian plain chocolate is 73% cocoa as standard. Our single origin chocolates include a wide range of cocoa percentages and are chosen for their quality and diversity.

Real ingredients – We use real liqueurs and spirits, fresh and dried and candied fruit in our recipes and only natural flower flavourings and essential oils. We think it gives a better result.

We use minimal packaging, most of which can be recycled, although you may prefer to keep our beautiful hand-finished boxes rather than recycle them.

Allergy Advice

All our chocolates are suitable for coeliacs and vegetarians. All our plain chocolates are dairy free, except for some truffles, and are suitable for vegans and people with lactose intolerance. Chocolates not containing nuts cannot be guaranteed not to have come in to contact with nuts, but we do not use peanuts in any of our recipes.
